RECICLAI360

RECICLAI360 is a project focused on intelligent, cooperative recycling across the value chain towards a 360º sustainable society.

Its objective is the research and development of an intelligent collaborative environment, which allows for the scalable enhancement and introduction of new actions to improve the value chain of the current recycling process, through the implementation of digital tools based on Artificial Intelligence: Big Data, Digital Twins, as well as persuasion techniques based on argumentation.

On the one hand, the key stakeholders (citizens) will have access to the required information to establish new processes and strategies for urban waste management, and on the other, the knowledge generated by the initiative will be transferred as a tool of reference for the design of new public policies.

The project will be executed by a consortium composed of the Association for Research into Plastics and Related Materials (AIMPLAS), Genia Bioenergy, S.L, Técnicas y Tratamientos Medioambientales, S.L. (TEMTA) and the AI Research Unit of the Universitat Politècnica de València (VRAIN – UPV). It is also supported by the Vall D’Uixo City Council, the Castellón City Council and the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Climate Emergency and Ecological Transition of the Regional Government of Valencia.

innovation

The pursuit of sustainable development requires a necessary demand for reduction of municipal waste production, which in turn calls for experimental development of innovative strategies to minimise environmental impacts. This involves objectively assessing the environmental and operational implications of municipal solid waste management systems, an extremely complex task in view of its diverse nature and the enormous quantities involved.

The reciclAI360 project will facilitate transition to a more environmentally-friendly circular economy by fostering good practices in waste separation at source and implementing innovative technologies.

The overall objective of the project is to research, develop and validate a collaborative software environment that enables the scalable, replicable enhancement and introduction of new measures to improve the current recycling process. This will strengthen the entire recycling value chain by implementing efficient, innovative tools such as artificial vision and digital twins. The project will bring together all stakeholders involved in the recycling process from production to valorisation with special attention to urban waste, specifically the waste deposited in the yellow, grey and brown containers, thus placing citizens at the centre of the solution.
